Re: Museum glass: before and after shots
I did note that the coating on the glass is not nearly as uniform as the coating on my camera filters. Given that camera filters are in the $100-$400 range for a 77mm circle, I'm not entirely surprised.

Re: Museum glass: before and after shots
When you hold that glass under light, and look at it from an angle, does it have a pink hue which changes colors? That means it is AR (antireflection) coated. That seems to be what I am seeing in your picture. Yes. Actually, it's either pink or green, depending on the angle. The glass is coated on ...

Re: DIY kit assembly
Is there a reason you chose 3/32 thickness? Is that just what was available at Home Depot? I'll be interested in the museum glass. I was given 1/4 thick glass panes from a similar throw away pile. It felt stronger than the 1/8th inch stuff. Think the thicker pane will reduce image quality? That's w...

Re: All threads that mention LiveCD/Linux development
If I had something to automate the process which I could run in a VM, I'd be all over it. I think that would be beneficial for getting wider exposure with kits; taking difficulty out of the process itself, leaving the challenge at building the hardware.

Re: DIY kit assembly
Somebody remind me to repost everything that got lost! Oh man! Hey, I just wanted to throw a heads up out there. I've been working with the guy at the framing shop down the block from me, and he mentioned that he throws out scraps of museum glass (anti-glare/reflection/etc) all the time. He's intere...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit
Rob, I didn't get the LED plate. We'll see if I can't live with the halogens I already have. So this attachment idea I was thinking about (pardon my awesome photoshop skills): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27512369/bookscanner/DIYscanner%20044_latch%20idea.jpg Think of a doughnut that circles the lip of t...

Re: DIY kit assembly
Managed to get the build 90% test fit. First, assemble the frame: (4x wood screws) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27512369/bookscanner/DIYscanner%20032.jpg It helps to pre-screw the bolts, as the milled holes are tight (4x 2" bolts, 2x 2.5" bolts, 10x washers, 6x nuts): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27...
