Re: DIY Book Scanner Kits Now Available!

Let me look into the shipping issue-I'll figure it out tomorrow morning and answer the rest of your questions as well... Cool. I'm sure the shipping is a non-issue -- it's US domestic shipping to a US address that receives hundreds of packages weekly (albeit mostly for Canadians). The payment shoul...

Re: DIY Book Scanner Kits Now Available!

Very, very tempted. But -- as I've just posted on Google+ -- I'm in Vancouver, and technically that disqualifies me. If you're cool with taking payment via Canadian credit card and shipping to about the farthest-north town in Washington (Blaine), then I could conceivably buy one. I'd also have to co...

Boing Boing post by Cory Doctorow, 2009-12-11

Boing Boing has a readership larger than that of the New York Times, and Cory Doctorow is a copyfighting hero, so this should be good!

Re: LASER CUTTER!!!

That's all cool info -- thanks for posting it! I'm a CorelDRAW user from way back. Self-taught, but I'm *good* at it. I haven't taken a graphics course since high school, but a few years back I put together a 6-colour (CMYK + two spots), four-page print job that the commercial printer who printed it...

Re: LASER CUTTER!!!

I thought I'd posted something to this effect long ago, but apparently not: How about using the laser to cut out a "camera obscurer" shield thingy for the Canon A590IS? You could cut it flat from dark cardboard or plastic, and fold and/or score it in appropriate places to let the flash and...

Re: Pads Scanner Build - Software Ideas

I've thought about this, too, and I'm afraid not all cameras support this. The Canon PowerShot A590IS does not, for example. Which sounds like a major bummer, until you contemplate the time it would take to transfer each photo via USB as it's taken. Maybe it's sour grapes from learning that my camer...
