Monson's Full Auto Scanner Build #5

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Thanks, M@rtijn. I mocked up a counter-weight as you suggested. It works well but of course the problem is how to make it fit the space available. Ideas are welcome.

Great!!

I don't know the solution yet, but it has the sense of the picture I have enclosed. What do you think?

This has been fascinating to watch this design evolve.

At the other extreme, there was a guy that managed to deal with the self-centering problem by simply throwing a slab of polyurethane foam under the book and the platen wedging down into the book's gutter would take care of the rest. I never tried that, but I suppose it would work.

Cradle mod puts book thickness adjustment on front. Still need to make spring pull adjuster. My original design can be used by anyone.

I love to see music hardware repurposed! It's generally of a very high build quality, designed to survive roadies, transportation, and temper tantrums. Even after Keith Moon placed the explosives in his drum kits, the stands and other hardware always seemed to survive.... The machine head is just the perfect thing for that with the subtle variations it offers.

I especially love the use of the larger handle. I'd have been stuck with the original and used a string winder, which is far less elegant.
