Monson's Full Auto Scanner Build #5

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

New cradle idea. I'm really excited about prototyping this. It's my original design and anybody can freely use it. Improvements over the old self adjusting cradle:

1. The base doesn't need to move left to right. The only slides are under the book boards.

2. The platen will come down to the same height on every book regardless of thickness.

3. The spine of the book will be jacked up where we want it.

4. Fewer parts.

Yes. And I think the roller might need to be either sprung or vertically adjustable.

JCK57 Do you have a Bill of Materials or other reference to create your automated page-turning scanner?

Dood! I just started building it. Heh. Right now I'm working on the new cradle design. After that, tons of other shit to do. Start making one of your own so we can help each other to figure stuff out!

Built a cradle prototype with 8 slides. It somewhat works but now I'm working on a version that features pivot arms instead of slides.

New cradle with swing arms. Works pretty well. Adjustable counter-springs and adjustable book thickness sizing.

Brilliant

How about applying some sort of mechanical balance technique to counter level the weight that is placed on each side so to have a easy distribution of weight difference between the book halves as they change when turning pages?
