plans

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

If you are looking for some discussion of common options, look through the rigs listed at:

http://diybookscanner.org/intro.html

For your purposes, it sounds like there are three that stand out as possibilities:

Cardboard Scanner -- Cheapest, worst quality
Hardware Store Scanner -- Still Cheap, medium quality
Plastic Tube Scanner -- Moderate Expense, good quality

All three of those scanners are listed on the page with links to build threads and instructions on making it yourself.

If none of those suit you, take a look at the design showcase here:

http://diybookscanner.org/designs.html

Click on the left and right arrows on the image to browse through it and click on a scanner picture to open up the build thread describing it. This has all kinds of designs, from small and simple to furniture-sized and complex.

Best of luck in your project.
