Keeping the cover aligned

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Keeping the cover aligned

Post by carl »

The page cover that flattened the book was not working well on my scanner. The book holder was not sliding correctly and not staying square or staying a constant distance from the cameras. After some fiddling I cam up with a simple bolt in a slot solution. Stacking out the end of the cover is a bolt that slides into a slot when the cover is lowered. This keeps the cover aligned.

Hey that's a really good idea. I was a little concerned about the same issue with my scanner, that it would wobble side to side enough to cause accuracy and focusing issues. I think there is enough depth of field in the focus (both on point and shoot cameras and the ideal settings for DSLRs) to not worry about that too much, but more consistency is better. Also, this kind of thing is good for the Hardware forum, but no problem.
