Going oldschool?

Post by Heelgrasper »

A random thought popped into my head while surfing around for something unrelated. It might have been discussed earlier but then I have missed it.

In the old days a cable shutter release was pure mechanical. Like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/40-100cm-Mechan ... 3cc2b0ce43. Interestingly, it seems these can be adapted to working on moderne compact cameraes with little effort: http://www.camera-shop.co.uk/acatalog/o ... er-30.html.

For those who like a visual demonstration:

Could this be a usuable solution in book scanning? I haven't spent long thinking about it so I don't have a solution for triggering two cameras at once with this like with the double hand brake solution. Or thought about a homemade version of the Olivion thing. It just strikes me as a quite elegant solution.

Okay, seems pretty simple to maken a DIY adapter for the cable release: http://youtu.be/_EqhFvDyO08.

Looking a bit more into it, both a mechanical shutter cable and a brake cable for a bike are Bowden cables. Makes me think a relatively simple DIY build should be possible.
