Hi,
I am building my own book scanner, just one question, irrespective of SDM or CHDK do I need to use the same camera or I can use two different from the list, say for example one A530 and one a750.

We've had a few scanners built with different cameras - it's possible to manually trigger or electronically trigger them at different times, but there will be some issues, the lenses, resolution, white balance and stuff will all be slightly different. You can do it, but you will face some unique problems.

I am using a pair of DLSR's. A Canon XS and a T3i. Two different MP counts 18 for the T3i vs 10.1 for the XS.
To equal out he sizes I just reduce the size from the T3i to the XS with a program that will do them in a batch.
10.1 MP is more than enough for OCR and all the files and up the same size for whatever you want to do with them.
