Camera Question - Web Cameras

Post by Archive5 »

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and the book scanning process so, pardon my "new guy" questions.

In the thread that discussed using web cameras, it seems to have left off with unsatisfactory results
because the cameras were low-res (2MP) or less.

I see that newer models are available with 8MP, does this change their usefulness in scanning?

For my application, I can use a CPU so the USB Web Cameras would be a simple and affordable option
if they work. Most of my work falls into 2 categories, 85% books with text the remaining images of
various types.

I can always switch to a regular camera for special projects.

Any thoughts?

I had a look at them, and I couldn't get decent results. I'd say forget about them until they have optical zoom, higher resolution and a better sensor.
