Re: Portland Group Meetup!

We had a great meeting, IMHO! Mellow-yellow updated us on his non-profit's project and some mods to his New Standard, Chrisr brought the beginnings of his scanner (which I think will be OUTSTANDING!), and I showed some pics of my overthought and yet still uncompleted build. We also had a great talk ...

diybookscanner.org on the Make Magazine blog

I couldn't resist: My favorite magazine asked for great DIY websites, so I submitted this one. Here's the link:

Re: Scanner based on Bkrpr, Victoria Australia

Very nice!

I've been intrigued by the bkrpr design concept, but I'm going a different way in my current build. Having said that, you certainly can't argue with results, and yours are BEAUTIFUL!

Nice job!

Re: Camera setting

FYI, that's how SDM works by default. One "click" or 5V pulse "arms" the cameras, and another click or pulse "fires" them. This behavior can be changed. Yeah, I know. I was trying to use some diplomacy in suggesting that everything might actually be working like it's s...

Re: Camera setting

On my setup, which is dual Canon a480's loaded with SDM, and using an externally powered USB hub, the FIRST time I interrupt power to the hub, the cameras focus. The SECOND time I interrupt power, they shoot. Could this be what's going on with you?

Re: Portland Party

Just wanted to let everyone in Portland, OR or surrounding areas know that we've had our first meeting. Yes, we, the DIY book scanner makers of Portland have had a meeting to chat about something only we are interested in. If you're in the area let I or mellow yellow know so you can get in on the n...

Re: Kino's Simple Book Scanner - MkI

I like it!

I especially like the Workmate base and the cardboard glareshield.

The only potential problem I see is holding the book up vertically by hand might get quite tiring after a couple hundred pages. Of course, you could just prop one end of the base up on a box or something...

Nice idea!

Re: Post something about yourself here (The Hello Thread)

Hi All! My name is Michael Zenner, and I live in lovely Portland, Oregon USA. My main interest in creating a complete scanning solution stems from a large magazine collection covering a wide variety of subjects. Pressing down on the platen of my flatbed scanner works, but at an agonizingly slow rate...
