Re: A480 power supply?
We found our generic power supply seller on eBay, but ordered direct from their website. I can probably track down the contact info if anyone wants it, though I don't know you can't find a better deal elsewhere. No particular feeling about them one way or another (they work fine, but shipping was a ...

Re: Another Complaint About eBooks
I figure someone could make a modest sum taking Gutenberg texts and cleaning them up, making them pretty, and then selling the product for a few bucks. One of my side gigs is working on a project that does something similar. Identifying works in the PD that are either uncommon or poorly formatted, ...

Re: Proposed 100% Linux Workflow: Capture-Process-OCR
This is helpful feedback... I'll look into these options when I return at the end of the month. One current script we've been playing with uses convert -> montage -> ristretto, which has the best output results but is also slow and crashes after a while. This may be a better alternative. It looks li...

Re: Foot-Operated Scanner
Terrific. For others looking at the video on Windows, adding an .mov file extension let me open it in VLC. I hadn't realized the cameras were also moving... have you had any issues with them "wandering," or do they stay in their positions pretty easily? Obviously the classy way to get rid ...

Re: Foot-Operated Scanner
This is fantastic. I'd assumed the Archive.org machine was using servos. Hope you post video eventually, would like to see that axle motion in action! As a person with substantial formal training & personal experience w/ woodworking tools, very much appreciate your reasoned & logical approac...

Re: Google Books & Rhythm
we've just started implementing our software in a production environment, and the first piece of feedback I got was a request for an audio prompt when the system was ready to take the next shot. we talked for a while about what kind of sound would be unobtrusive but facilitate falling into a rhythm ...

Re: LED Flash Device for New Build?/LED flash on iPhone....
How are you powering the lights? Are you using the 110v mount in the picture? Wondering b/c in the automotive (12vdc negative ground) world you'd use a standard relay (aka Bosch relay). Grainger sells 110v a/c solenoids, but I've never used one so no idea what the input volt/amp requirement might be...

Re: Collapsible scanner made with waterjet technology.
i worry that scissor lifts might bind over time. this might be the first scanner to require regular lubrication & alignment. maybe it's a problem only in my head, or one that could be cured by creating a slight groove/track for the wheels? if it's to be used with a car battery, perhaps time to c...

Re: Proposed 100% Linux Workflow: Capture-Process-OCR
These are good ideas... I'll try to take some photos the next time I'm in front of the system. Visual impairment is an interesting question... capturing would be pretty easy but previewing/flagging images might be tricky... though the previews will ultimately be displayed fullscreen, so I guess if y...
