My 3rd Generation Scanner Build Thread

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Yes, but those aren't Latin :)

May I suggest "præstigiosas operantur transmutationes" ?

Mind you, it's a QUITE CONTROVERSIAL quote, but I that's why I like it ...

It's from the title of a chapter of the Malleus Maleficarum (the medieval witch-hunter's manual)

Literally, it means "they will operate magical trasformations", with "præstigiosus" shifting in meaning from "prestidigitatory" to "magic" to "deceptive" ending with today's "prestigious".

So, you can intend it as saying that a scanner "will magically convert", "will egregiously convert", and (when needed) it will convert deceiftully :-)

Plus, it has the advantage of containing the glyph "Æ" that looks fine when engraved...

Latin text here:

English translation (a poor translatation, IMHO)

A nice excursus about the different meaning of "prestigious"

I feel like I should write these, in script, on the inward-facing panel of some part of the scanner. That way, they'll be like secret incantations, which will only be discovered when they tear my book scanner from my cold, dead hands and smash it into kindling.

If you're going to do that, make sure you write "Rosebud" on it somewhere and leave that word on your lips as you exit this veil of tears.

Well, scanner progress has thick and fast, and I'm nearing completion. Yesterday I sat down with my beloved Bernina 1130 and drafted up a carry-on case for this scanner. It actually snaps to the scanner itself for maximum security/integration.

I also have a totally killer lighting system going, but I need to have more time to document it.
