bitmaps into vector graphics: cr2v.exe - anyone have it?
I was briefly experimenting with potrace and came upon references to the early, free version of a similar (MS DOS) program, cr2v.exe which apparently used to live (nearly 20 years ago) at http://www.celinea.com/demos/cr2v.zip - but the link is to another location which appears not to have been saved by Wayback Machine, and searching elsewhere has yielded nothing. Does anyone have the free-to-use cr2v.zip which they can link to please? tia

CR2V seems to have been replaced by a Windows application called "VectorEye" in 2003.

Sorry for delay. I uploaded cr2v binary with preset files here: It works also with wine in linuxb0bcat wrote: ↑06 Nov 2019, 17:22 I was briefly experimenting with potrace and came upon references to the early, free version of a similar (MS DOS) program, cr2v.exe which apparently used to live (nearly 20 years ago) at http://www.celinea.com/demos/cr2v.zip - but the link is to another location which appears not to have been saved by Wayback Machine, and searching elsewhere has yielded nothing. Thanks very much, I'll give it a test drive.
Incidentally I see Inkscape v.1.0 is out as of 1 May:
https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.0/
My interest in these as well as in potrace springs from the probably misguided idea of exploring whether any can produce from ScanTailor output greyscale or b&w tif files something prettier that looks like e.g. Adobe ClearScan. I dare say various concepts are being jumbled together incompatibly in this endeavour, but when I last looked at end of 2019 I couldn't find a succinct treatment of the subject - as with all graphics programs it seems the user guides focus on artwork and nary a word on cleaning up a scanned page of text polluted with ink blotches, coffee stains etc so it might be book-digitised or OCR'd better.
So far all I've managed to do is convert a sample tif to bmp (iirc) and run that through potrace to pdf output - but Acrobat declined to OCR it on the grounds it was less than 72dpi and having no more time then I didn't explore whether the output resolution could be increased or if that is a symptom of my misapprehension.

There is an interesting thread here regarding clearscan alternatives (but I think you are already aware of this)
https://softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/ ... r-similiar
I was in touch with Smoothscan author some time ago and attempted to build binary, but I had issues with fontforge dependencies on my linux environment but maybe it is worth to try again to build
I heavily used cr2v in my early uncle Bill's years, before to discover potrace (horrible to say - vade retro micro$oft) and linux. Then, only used potrace that is a lot better and faster in my experience
